I have been crocheting on squares, but it's slow.
As I work down the first row, it's always surprising how much length is added by chain stitches and single crochets.
I haven't even added the entire row, and I've already gained the length of 2 squares.
One reason it's going so slowly is other projects! My daughter asked me to make a sack-sock for her. I started by making a chain a bit longer than the width of a kitchen towel. The odd shaped wire is a wire clothes hanger. I was going to use it as a frame/hanger, but it was a hassle to work around and I decided not to use it.
Keeping the chain straight, join with a slip stitch to make a ring.
Chain 4, skip a chain, dc in next stitch.
Chain 1, skip next chain, dc in next chain stitch around.
It's very important that this row does not twist.
Making sure round is not twisted, join with slip stitch to beginning chain 4.
Chain 1, turn, sc in first space. Chain 4, * skip dc, dc in next stitch, chain 1 repeat around. Join with slip stitch in beginning ch4.
I'll use this plastic ring for the hanger
I made another round inside the bottom and wove a strip of elastic through it to gather the bottom so the bags wouldn't fall out.
I should finish some projects before starting another!!
