Hat and scarf

Some afghan patterns are called "mile a minute". They're worked in strips and seem to go very fast because the strips aren't very wide and seem to get longer "a mile a minute". You're still going to make as many stitches to complete the afghan AND then slip stitch the strips together. This picture is from a pattern book I have.

Sometimes, these patterns look like suggestions to me. So, I made a strip longer than the pattern said to for the afghan to make a scarf. The hat decoration is one pineapple with some sparkly buttons added.
This is my hat pattern:  Chain 4, in 4th ch from hook, work 11 dc, join. (12 dc)
Ch 3, in next stitch, work 2 dc; *in next stitch, work 1 dc; in next stitch, work 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join. (18 dc)
Repeat previous round 2 more times.
For the following rounds, increase 5 stitches evenly, until hat is the right size for you. I make 65 stitches for my hats, but I have thick, curly hair. That's too big for some people. It's amazing how much space hair takes! I make a total of 17 rounds, so the hat covers my ears.
The pineapple decoration ends at the top, so I left myself a long end string to tack it on.
Then I added some sparkly buttons. There are lots of flower patterns if you'd like a different decoration. That's part of the fun of crocheting: personalizing your projects.
